International Economic Summit
Project summary: For the IES project groups were assigned a country in which they were supposed to learn about the country and its standard of living. Each groups goal in the summit was to help their countries economy grow and to get their countries economy better than it was. Each group tried to make their economy better by making trade alliances, trading, and working together. My personal goal was to have a full understanding of Guatemala's economy which I accomplished.
The most interesting thing I learned about economics was cost benefit anylisis. I learned that something is worth buying if the outcome of what your buying is going to out way the cost. The most surprising thing that I learned about economics was that a socialist economy to me seemed like the best. I thought this because it seems beneficial for an economy for its people to have benefits and more of an equal chance to earn money.
I learned what GDP means and that helped alot in my life because now when im watching the news I can understand most of what there talking about. Also when I learned about tariffs and trade embargos that helped a lot with me understanding global trade.
I learned that I work very efficiently under pressure, it almost seems like when Im under pressure I work better. I work very efficiently in groups because I am a people person and that seemed to pay off at the summit because we got all but one of our goals.

S.O.L Paper Excerpt
Guatemala is such a beautiful country with so much potential to be great. But how can a country become great if rebel guerrillas are running free and causing 60% of Guatemala's population to live in shacks that are placed under mud sliding mountains and over-flowing rivers? This excerpt will give you an idea of what Guatemala's economic state is in. This relates to my understanding of economics because the insufficient housing shows how bad Guatemala's economy is. Also this shows that the standard of living in Guatemala is low because most are homeless and are living in shacks without plumbing.
"With the guerillas, pillaging and destroying the Mayan villages, many are forced to
either move or they become homeless. However, the guerillas are not the only
problem for the sixty percent of Guatemala’s population. The Mayan’s live in the
mountains of Guatemala and their slums are usually on the sides of river beds
(because they don’t have plumbing.) This is a big problem because the riverbeds
flood and when rain falls mudslides occur, many times crushing the unstable
slums and leaving more problems for Guatemala’s people and their standard of
living."
Photo Essay
Picture 1: I could not let this beautiful sunset go unnoticed so I snapped a picture of it on my phone, right as it set behind the peir. This picture represents a day of fun in my community, Ocean Beach. In OB, people always utilize the beach to their benefit and go swimming and surfing. In OB, even in a tough economy, we still go out and enjoy what we have been given. This picture shows how much the beach means to me and my community. The sunset, the ocean, the pier, all these things are what shapes the personality of my community and myself.
Picture 2: This is a picture of the Ocean
Beach International Hostile. This picture was taken because I think it shows what Ocean
Beach is all about. As you can see there is a peace sign resembling that this
building is about peace and love and that people from foreign lands who do not
have a lot of money can come and stay here. It also shows that people from all
countries are welcome in Ocean Beach.

SCIFI Short Story
In my humanities class we made our own SCIFI short stories. To make everyones story diverse each student had to pick a specififc topic that was unique to themselves. My topic was nuclear war and if the U.S. never entered WW2.
The process in writing my story was to pick a topic. After picking my topic I created a rough draft of my story that consisted of 2 pages. After i got all of my ideas together i finished the story by adding another 2 pages. My story then went through 3 peer revisions. My inspiration for my story was the Book of Eli. I knew what to revise becasue i had to go through 3 peer edits. The most helpful thing for developing my story was learning all the different types of ways you can make your story end that was very interesting.
I learned that I like my stories better when it is undetermined what happens to the protagonist. A good short story is when someone creates a good and interesting conflict within a short ammount of pages. In analyzing literature I have learned to indicate what the mood is in a story. If you understand the mood you can basiclly understand the whole story. My writing has improved by me being able to write better resolutions and also i have been becoming to be more descriptive in my writing.
Here is an excerpt from my short story called Missing
I chose this excerpt particulary because it has great imagery and depicts a clear image of what i wanted the reader to see. Also this is a good excerpt from my exposition because it sets up the story enough to where the reader has an idea of the setting.
" It was a dark morning; the sun was partially blocked out from the smoke coming from the charred remains of downtown."
